Utility trailers can be very helpful for moving, transporting yard waste to the compost site, or picking up building materials for your next landscaping project. Many of us have them, but are you aware of ordinances that pertain to them?

In Apple Valley, utility trailers fit into two class types, Class I and Class II depending on the size of the trailer.
• Class I trailers are less than 8 feet in height and less than 22 feet in length.
• Class II trailers are over 8 feet in height and over 22 feet in length, but cannot exceed 40 feet in length.
On residential lots less than one acre, property owners may park up to two (2) Class I trailers, or one Class I and one Class II trailer on the property at any given time. No more than one Class II trailer may be parked on such lots at any given time. Other requirements include:
• All trailers must be kept free of debris, refuse, junk and other materials when stored outside.
• Any trailer stored in a front yard must be stored on the established driveway.
• Motorized vehicles coupled with a trailer must be parked on a paved surface (Concrete, asphalt, or pavers).
