Clean water has an enormous impact on daily lives.

The American Water Works Association reminds people that October 10th is Imagine a Day Without Water. Below are interesting facts about water and industries that rely heavily on clean water:

• The combined economic impact of brewers, distributors, retailers, supply-chain partners and induced industries totaled more than $350 billion in 2016. (Beer Institute) 

• The wine industry has a total economic impact of some $220 billion. (Wine America 2017) 

• 19 gallons of water are required to grow just 1 apple. (Value of Water Campaign) 

• The total economic impact of the coffee industry in the United States in 2015 was $225.2 billion. (National Coffee Association)

 • In the United States alone, a one-day disruption in water services would result in a $43.5 billion daily sales loss to businesses. (The Economic Benefits of Investing in Water Infrastructure, March 2017) 

• In the United States, a one day loss in water services would result in a $22.5 billion loss in GDP. (The Economic Benefits of Investing in Water Infrastructure, March 2017) 

• For every day of water service disruption, the average US business loses $230 in sales per employee. (The Economic Benefits of Investing in Water Infrastructure, March 2017)

 • For every day of water service disruption, sales drop by up to 75 percent in industries most reliant on water, or up to $5,800 per employee. (The Economic Benefits of Investing in Water Infrastructure, March 2017) 

• Closing the water investment gap saves businesses $94 billion in annual sales, and saves 505,000 jobs over the next 10 years. (The Economic Benefits of Investing in Water Infrastructure, March 2017) 

• Even though a majority think the nation’s water infrastructure is in good condition and 84% say the same for their local infrastructure, nearly four in five say that rebuilding water infrastructure as “very important.” (2018 Value of Water National Poll)
