Happy Arbor Month! The 2019 theme is Plant Trees for Clean Water. Do you know all the ways the trees in your yard are working to give us clean drinking water and keep our favorite lakes and streams fishable and swimmable?
Trees do a lot for us. Shade, beauty, and habitat are some of the many benefits mature trees provide. Another benefit not to be overlooked, improvements to water quality in local lakes, streams, and groundwater. Trees reduce stormwater runoff, filter out pollutants, and help infiltrate/replenish groundwater. In acknowledgement of all that trees do to keep the water clean and blue, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is encouraging us all to plant trees for clean water.
