It’s that time of year again for many to be in the yard raking, collecting, and disposing of leaves. How can yard waste material be disposed of properly? Trash haulers do collect yard waste at the curb, but other disposal options are available!
The City cannot require property owners to rake up leaves that have fallen, but if leaves are raked and accumulated they must be disposed of properly. There are several ways residents can properly dispose of yard waste from their property. Burning leaves not allowed by ordinance and is not an appropriate method for disposal. Leaves may not be raked onto a street, sidewalk, any public, or adjacent private property.
Residents may compost yard waste material in a compliant manner on private property. Compost bins must meet 5 foot setback requirements from property lines, and must be constructed in a manner to adequately contain all compost material. Residents may also transport yard waste material to an area compost site on their own. A list of compost sites is available by following the link below.
Curbside collection is available through most if not all trash haulers for a fee. If you do not already pay for yard waste collection; contact your trash collection company and arrangements can be made for any additional collections that may be necessary.
