[ARCHIVED] FIREWORKS SAFETY INFORMATION

Fireworks are associated with many injuries nationally each year. The following information provides general fireworks safety information as well as information from the MN State Fire Marshal Division on specific consumer fireworks.

The following safety guidelines are offered to reduce fireworks injuries, fires, and nuisance issues:

-It is important to read, understand, and follow the instructions on each fireworks device prior to using.
-Choose a safe place to use legal consumer fireworks that is far from anything that could be damaged from normal or abnormal operation of any device. Any fireworks should only be ignited outdoors and away from animals, buildings, storage tanks, brush, or combustible materials.
-Never ignite consumer fireworks inside another container such as a bottle or can.
-If a consumer fireworks device fails to ignite, stay clear from the device for an extended period of time to prevent injury from delayed activation. Soak the device in water before handling it. Never relight fireworks that malfunction.
-Never experiment with or alter fireworks in any way.
