[ARCHIVED] Change your Clocks, Change your Batteries!

The Apple Valley Fire Department reminds residents to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors at the same time they change their clocks.

As the time change back to standard time occurs on Sunday, March 9, the Apple Valley Fire Department reminds residents that in addition to changing their clocks, they should also change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

Thousands of people are injured and killed each year in residential fires and over 60% of those are in homes without working detectors. Changing your batteries every year is one of the easiest ways to add fire safety protection to your home.

Studies have shown that the hours between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. are the primary times for fire fatalities. Smoke detectors that are working properly can give your loved ones the extra seconds they may need to escape a burning home.
